摘要

•This study explores placental and fetal lipid metabolism and the role of PCSK9 in pregnancy.•Maternal serum PCSK9 and LDL-c are lower in women with preeclampsia when compared to normotensive controls.•Placental PCSK9 protein is lower in preeclampsia when compared to controls.•In preeclampsia, placental PCSK9 increases from the maternal to fetal interface.•PCSK9 may act as a compensatory mechanism for higher fetal LDL-c levels in preeclampsia.
