•A modified ejector enhanced Joule-Thomson refrigeration cycle is presented.•Performances of proposed cycle and basic cycle are theoretically evaluated.•The effects of fluid composition and operation temperature are investigated.•The proposed cycle has great potential advantages in low-temperature freezer.
