Synergistic effect of defected MoS 2 and N-S-codoped Carbon on the conversion of polysulfides in Li–S battery

Lithium sulfur batteries are regarded as promising secondary energy storage devices for fulfilling the demand of higher-energy–density energy storage system. However, their application is still hindered by some severe problems, some of which come from the cathode part. To design a high-performance cathode material, many strategies have been proposed, such as structure construction of host materials, heteroatoms doping and introduction of materials with electrocatalysis on the conversion of polysulfides. To combine the merits of various materials, herein, defected MoS 2 with electrocatalysis integrated with N-S-codoped carbon (NSdC) nanosheets is developed as multifunctional host material for constructing high-performance sulfur cathode. Owing to the great adsorption ability to polysulfides and electrocatalysis effect of defected MoS 2 nano flakes and the NSdC, the optimized sulfur cathode with high sulfur loading of ~ 7 mg cm −2 shows good electrochemical performance at the current density of 0.2 C and enhanced rate capability.
