Personality differences between children and adults over the past two centuries: Evidence from corpus linguistics

•We traced the historical trends in personality description with a linguistics approach.•Extraversion and neuroticism words were more frequently used to describe children.•Conscientiousness words were more frequently used to describe adults.•Age differences showed a reduction over time in extraversion adjectives.
