摘要

•It contributes a global evaluation of expressed negativity towards COVID-19 in social media space.•It unpacks the nexus between negativity and COVID-19 policies across 217 countries.•Countries with more stringent policies were associated with lower levels of negativity.•Such negativity-policy relationship was weakened in later phases of the pandemic.•We offer a novel empirical framework to monitor mental health signals globally.
