Estrogen pollution of the European aquatic environment: A critical review

•This review focuses on the detection of estrogens in the Europe environment.•The endocrine disruptors (EDs) disrupts hormone synthesis in aquatic organisms.•Estrogen concentrations were of 0.1 ng L– 10 ng /L in the most of tested samples.•Exist many unexplored areas in Eastern European countries.•This review analysed the factors that influence the increased emissions of estrogens.
