Highly flexible polypyrrole electrode with acanthosphere-like structures for energy storage and actuator applications

•A flexible pristine PPy-V electrode with acanthosphere-like vesicles was synthesized.•The unique hierarchical structure improved the electrochemical properties.•PPy-V assembled symmetrical supercapacitors stably powered electronics.•PPy-V assembled electrochemical actuator showed a reversible deformation.
