Housing and supportive services for substance use and self-efficacy among young mothers experiencing homelessness: A randomized controlled trial

•Housing & supportive services prevented women from increasing substance use.•Housing & supportive services helped women develop confidence in their ability to address the daily hassles of life.•Young mothers receiving housing & supportive services were more likely to increase self-efficacy.•Young mothers in the housing-only condition would likely have benefited from supportive services.
