Axiomatically Designed Research Support Systems

Research support systems (RSS) aim at supporting researchers from various scientific disciplines in the production of new knowledge through effective interaction and collaboration. Despite numerous and isolated attempts to develop such systems, they remain specific to a particular discipline or institution, and thereby lack wide adoption, compared to their decision support systems counterparts. The proposed system herein applies axiomatic design theory and modern artificial intelligence (AI) tools for developing a generic and flexible software architecture of RSS across many scientific research disciplines. The proposed architecture can be implemented by the deployment of a set of well-specified software modules.
