Comparative System Current Stability Analysis Using Optimally Tuned PI Controller

In last few years, the process industries has been facing the problem of Modern Power Electronics Controlled devices operations and the issue arising due to the variances in the behaviour of load as well as the high transients in loads such as Arc Furnace and ASDs etc. With the fact that the versatility’s of operations of Power Electronics Devices is adopted globally, most of the automation’s are dependent on them. Although the profitability makes over the side effects of these devices and the harmonic issues arises due to variable loads as well, one shouldn’t compromise with the sustainability of the overall system for smooth and break free operation. In this work we have chosen the Electric Arc Furnace as a variable load which produces tremendous harmonic in the system which could further disturb the performance of parallely connected loads also. The chaotic nature of arc is observed with an EAFs model. Further the reduction of the undesired effects of EAFs has been improved with the help of power filters responsible for less harmonics introduction in the system with the help of optimized PI controller. Here we have chosen two metaheuristic techniques GA and EP after analysing that they have a substantial capability to reduce the impact of nonlinear effect in conjunction with error extraction criteria in optimizing the PI parameters. GA and EP both are implemented with highly fluctuating load i.e. electric arc furnace to minimize the THD raised from its operation. Comparatively ITAE criteria gives fast and satisfactory response in both of the metaheuristic techniques.
