Fatigue fracture failure investigation of splitter in engine intermediary casing

•Failure investigation was conducted on splitter fairing that occurs fracture surface.•The investigation revealed that the fracture of the splitter was caused by metal fatigue.•The welding defects have a significant effect on the fatigue failure of the splitter.•The natural frequency of the splitter fairing is calculated to determine the stress connection location.
