Shared decision making for patients with breast and gynecologic malignancies undergoing chemotherapy associated with persistent alopecia

•Shared decision making is recommended for physician-patient interactions to facilitate value-consistent decisions.•Underrepresented patients and those with advanced disease may need additional support to discuss chemotherapy and alopecia.•Gynecologic oncologists can extrapolate from the breast cancer literature on the benefits of shared decision making.
