•Strontium isotope for high-resolution chemostratigraphy (time interval less than 1 Myr) is proposed in the current study.•Temporal and spatial variations of geochemical indices across the WCB and PTB are clarified.•Strontium sources supplied by terrestrial input or marine volcanism.
