Metrics for motion and MR quality assessment

Quality assessments for motion correction require evaluating both motion-tracking systems and MR images themselves. In this chapter, we present a schema for evaluating and classifying the reference data available to support assessments. Based on this, we identify that evaluating motion-correction systems requires references for both the motion performed and the image that is derived. We explore these two parts separately, discussing different assessment strategies that can be used depending on the reference data available, the context in which quality is being evaluated, and the types of motion and imaging data being considered.
