Immune responses in mice after blast-mediated traumatic brain injury TBI autonomously contribute to retinal ganglion cell dysfunction and death

•This manuscript evaluates the adoptive transfer of splenocytes from mice that have experienced a TBI into naïve mice.•This splenocyte transfer results in chronic degeneration of the visual system in recipient mice.•These results suggest that degeneration of neurons following TBI may be a result of immune system activation.
