An IoT Integrated Reliability Estimation of Wind Energy System

The Internet of Things (IoT) mainly consists of sensors, software and other technologies for industrial automation, monitoring, analysis, control etc. With the advancement in technology, the integration of IoT with existing renewable energy sources like wind can be very effective for the assessment of the reliability of electric power systems. This paper discusses the importance of IoT based reliability analysis. IoT in wind electrical systems incorporates a large number of sensors for wind speed measurement. The present work utilizes the concept of obtaining the wind data from IoT to calculate the wind probability and hence the wind power generation probability. The wind generation probability is combined with the load probability to obtain generation reliability. The wind model consists of a 5-step model with a corresponding probability for each given step. Based on this data, the wind output power and the overall generation and load profile can be analyzed. The corresponding simulations were performed in MATLAB/Simulink and the results were recorded. The proposed scheme represents a wind farm connected to IEEE-RTS system, and the reliability indices are validated for variation of wind in the system.
