IoT platform using information flow to reduce load on cloud

Current IoT systems use the cloud to process data. However, this places a heavy load on the cloud. Fog computing and edge computing are the new trends to avoid centralized cloud processing. They both have in common that they distribute computing resources closer to the edge. In addition, both send the data to the cloud ultimately. Therefore, if numbers of IoT or the data transmitted to the cloud become more frequent, there will be the same issues. Information flow has been proposed to solve the issues by processing the information as distributed flow. The concept of information flow processes the data immediately without storing data in one place. However, the usefulness of information flow in services and platforms is still unclear. This paper proposes an IoT platform prototype implementation to utilize and combine information flow. We name it InfoFlow System as the new distributed processing platform. Using the platform enables IoT devices to utilize information flow. We aim to prove the effectiveness of the information flow during the implementation of this platform. The evaluation results show that the implemented prototype is an appropriate framework for information flow utilization.
