Using biobased solvents for the extraction of phenolic compounds from kiwifruit industry waste

•Production of extracts with high phenolic content and antioxidant activity from kiwi peels.•Optimization of biobased solvent mixtures composition and operating extraction conditions.•Mixtures of gamma-valerolactone and ethanol were the most promising solvents.•MAE was the best technique considering its efficiency and extraction process costs.
