Bonding quality monitoring of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics bonded structures by fiber Bragg gratings

•New method for real-time, continuous and remote monitoring of the bonding quality of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics bonded structures.•Small thermal variations induce deformations in the bonding region between two panels which depend on the bonding quality.•Fiber Bragg gratings can be easily fixed on the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics bonded structures and are able to monitor the bonding quality through the thermal induced deformation.
