Optimizing software project management staffing and work-force deployment processes using swarm intelligence

The process of delivering and completing a software project in time is among the most difficult and time crunching tasks to manage from management's perspective. The Software development organizations and institutions are in continuous efforts of delivering projects within budget and on time. The timely delivery of project is closely associated with concepts of coherent requirements and classified quality expected from a product. The underlying causes are numerous however the primary causes of delay, budget and time slipping are inefficient and crude patterns followed by managers. The probable causes include insufficient project management skills, lack of domain knowledge and most importantly the task of effective project scheduling and staffing techniques. This paper focuses on devising a solution relevant to prior problems of staffing and scheduling. The research proposes a solution based on particle swarm optimization. The suggested algorithm is indicative for project managers in tasks involving scheduling and staffing. The algorithm in particular focuses on creating designated efficient management plans according to domain or nature of the problem at hand. It furthermore illustrates the most cost effective approach towards an optimal and comprehensive project schedule. The research also provides a minimized calculation for project duration and extension. Instantaneously, it pursues to create expert and dynamic operational groups with the optimized operation of developer and his designated artifact skills. These imperiled discussions allow a befittingly encoded of the algorithm, with some defined and restrictive constraints and objective functions accurately simulated to measure the produced solutions in accordance with feasibility and quality. The initial results present a positive and encouraging reflection in accordance with the test plan and test designs. This indicates and establishes that the analyzed and performed tests can effectively manage scheduling and staffing activities for the domain of software project management.
