Cellular models to study bipolar disorder: A systematic review

•We systematically reviewed the use of cellular models to understand bipolar disorder).•There were 85 articles identified (LCLs, fibroblasts, ONE and IPSC neurons).•Most replicated findings – abnormal Ca2+ signaling and ER/ mitochondrial pathways.•These abnormalities are accentuated with cellular stressors, and are often reversed with in-vitro Lithium.•Findings show consistency with other study designs.
