•Bibliometric study on mistakes and inconsistencies in adsorption is reported.•The reports on such issue were majorly published as comments on the original articles.•The mistakes include incorrect expressions of the adsorption isotherm and kinetics.•Inaccurate uses of quantities for measuring adsorption performance were also observed.•The correct expressions of the adsorption isotherm models and kinetics are reported.
