•Potential of land surface temperature to predict flowering phenology was explored.•A spatio-temporal reconstruction approach is developed to compenstate the missing LST.•The predicted first flowering date are validated with field measurements at multiple sites.•Feasibility for generating spatially continuous information on flowering phenology.
