•Pressure drop tests of the Option 3 dummy conductor were performed at THETIS.•The sample has layout similar to HTS conductor designed for the quench experiment.•CFD analysis of conductor single channel was performed using ANSYS Fluent.•CFD simulations and experiment provided friction factor for a very wide Re range.
