The impact of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on tomato plant resistance against Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) in greenhouse conditions

•Interaction was observed between Tuta absoluta and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF).•Mixed species of AMF made plants relatively more resistant against Tuta absoluta.•A lower population of insect was established on the plants inoculated with AMF.•Less insects in plants with AMF was likely due to the unsuitability of the host.
