Insights on β-glucan as a prebiotic coadjuvant in the treatment of diabetes mellitus: A review

•The review emphasizes the therapeutic potential of β-glucan as prebiotic coadjuvant in the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus.•β-glucan biological showed many biologicals properties such as: antioxidant activity, modulation of the immune system and the intestinal microbiota, and production of bioactive metabolites.•β-glucan were used as prebiotics for glycemic status management, especially those from cereal sources.
