Response and Dynamics of Renal Function in Transplantation-Eligible Multiple Myeloma Patients Treated with a Novel Agent: The CAREMM-2201 Study

•In a substantial number of patient, renal response is underestimated based on the International Myeloma Working Group criteria.•Renal benefit was operationally defined as a sustained (for at least 3 months) increase in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) >15 mL/min/1.73 m2 over baseline.•The achievement of renal benefit was independently associated with early recovery of eGFRs (≥5 mL/min/1.73 m2) within 3 days prior to the initiation of protocol-based treatment.•The mean eGFR improved significantly until 4 months after the initial treatment period, and this improvement disappeared gradually after autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT), but overall renal function was not worsened after ASCT.
