Core-shell catalyst WO3@mSiO2-SO3H interfacial synergy catalyzed the preparation of furfural from xylose

•The Core-shell catalyst WO3@mSiO2-SO3H with two acidic sites distributed in different planes were synthesized by a simple method.•By constructing an interface with internal and external spatial relationship, the synergistic effect of double acid centers was maximized and the catalytic efficiency was improved.•WO3@mSiO2-SO3H catalysts exhibited a lower repeated diffusion between same active sites.
