Who do you trust? The role of level and change in trust and personality across young to middle adulthood for political interest and voting intentions

•We observed both stability and change in personality traits and trust variables.•Personality traits and trust variables were concurrently related.•Change in personality and trust predicted people’s interest in politics.•Change in constructs predicted party preferences but not general voting intentions.
