The structural differences between mushroom and human tyrosinase cleared by investigating the inhibitory activities of stilbenes

•The active pockets of human (h) and mushroom (Ab) tyrosinase (TYR) is different.•Six stilbenes were evaluated to inhibit both TYRs.•Oxyresveratrol was the most potent inhibitor among 6 stilbenes for both TYRs.•SAR analyses indicate the differential roles of A and B rings in natural stilbene.•We performed a docking study and discussed the difference in the poses.
