Modulation of drug binding ability and augmented enzymatic activity of lysozyme stabilized in presence of surface-active ionic liquids

•Three novel cationic surface-active ionic liquids (SAILs) – MOR, IMD, PYD - are synthesized;•Interaction of drugs with lysozyme (LYZ) and LYZ-SAIL conjugates is reported;•Binding with SAIL retains the protein secondary structure and modulates drug binding ability significantly;•The enzymatic activity of LYZ increases in presence of SAILs;•Controlled drug transportation capacity of LYZ in presence of SAILs can help in designing new drug delivery technique.
