Platinum nanoparticles modified electrode for glucose sensor

Sensor is a device that detect signals from its surroundings and interpret them into useful data for analysis. Electrochemical sensors may have lower sensitivity and limit of detection. Hence, working electrodes can be modified with platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) to increase the performance of electrochemical sensors. In this work, PtNPs were synthesized via chemical reduction using Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) as surfactant to enhance the colloidal stability. The produced modified electrodes were then investigated by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) analysis glucose sensor. Nafion/GOx/PEG6000-PtNPs/ITO electrode and modified Nafion/GOx/PEG8000-PtNPs/ITO electrode showed good sensitivity towards glucose detection at various glucose concentration ranging from 0 to 15 mM in 0.1 M Phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). The optimum modified electrode was obtained for Nafion/GOx/PEG6000-PtNPs/ITO with high sensitivity (5.00 µA/mM·cm2), wide linear range (0–15 mM) and low limit of detection (LOD) up to 0.37 mM.
