•Dutch Beta Thalassemia is a cause high level of HbF persisting beyond infancy.•The mutation is not restricted to the western countries.•It has never been reported from India.•There's a need to look beyond HPFH and delta-beta Thalassemia when such readings are reported on HPLC.•The management of such cases may need more detailed studies.
