Investigation on Giant Electrocaloric Properties in Ferroelectric Polymer P(VDF-TrFE) (65/35)

The electrocaloric (EC) effect due to phase transition of ferroelectric–paraelectric one in poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) copolymers (P(VDF-TrFE) (65/35)) was investigated by phenomenological model. The results reveal the importance of this system to reach highly EC entropy change up to 76 J/(kg K), which is higher than for polymer P(VDF-TrFE) (55/45) and oxide films. The EC temperature changes and heat capacity as high as 39.28 K and 566 J/(kg K), respectively for a field of 400 MV/m. The calculations showed that at ∆ E = 400 MV/m, relative cooling power is equal 957 J/kg and refrigerant capacity is equal 7472 J/kg.
