Effect of compositional changes on dielectric and ferroelectric properties of Zr substituted barium titanate

In the present study, the effect of Zr substitution on the dielectric and ferroelectric properties of BaTiO3 ceramic has been investigated. Ba(ZrxTi1-x)O3 (x = 0.10,0.15 and 0.20) powder samples prepared via solid state reaction method were double calcined and sintered at 1100°C. The crystallinity of the samples has been assessed by X-ray diffraction. The dielectric and ferroelectric properties were measured in wide range of frequency and temperatures. The samples with 15% Zr concentration have higher value of dielectric constant and lower dielectric loss factor (tanδ∼0.15) as compared to other samples. P-E loop analysis shows an increase in the remanant polarization and coercive electric field with increase in Zr concentration.
