Sources of social support for postpartum women with a history of childhood maltreatment: Consequences for perceived stress and general mental health in the first year after birth

•Childhood Maltreatment (CM) leads to more stress and mental health problems postpartum.•CM contributes to less perceived social support within the first year after birth.•The source of social support determines its benefits for maternal mental health.•Only partner support seemed beneficial for mental health mediated by reduced stress.
