摘要

•The montmorillonite nanosheets based composite hydrogels loaded with Fe(III) and La(III) were synthesized.•The addition of Fe(III) into the hydrogel can improve the As(V) adsorption capacity.•As(V) adsorbed on the hydrogel through electrostatic interaction and the formation of As-O-M complexes.
