Experimental DVB-T2 Passive Radar Signatures of Small UAVs

The rapid development of small UAVs poses a serious threat to the protection of critical infrastructure and strategic objects as well as for private security. Passive radars are promising candidates for the detection of the UAVs to counteracting the possible threat. This paper presents the results of experimental investigations of the Doppler signatures of different small UAVs observed by passive radar exploiting DVB-T2 illuminators of opportunity. The experimental results revealed a presence of the distinctive features in Doppler signatures that can be used for classification between different types of UAV and other non-UAV targets.
