Research on Cross-Medium Target Detection

This paper designs a type of acoustic buoy for underwater platform to detect the aerial targets crossing the different medium. This cylindrical buoy has a three-dimensional microphone array which is expandable and retractable. In case of storage or launch, the array folds in order to save space and be easy to launch, and the array can expand automatically after the buoy rushes out of the water surface for enlarging the array aperture. This buoy has ability in estimating target direction both in horizontal and vertical. Simulations on the buoy's rising motion are carried out, and the factors influencing launch speed, positive buoyancy effects and ocean currents are analyzed in detail. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed designing method.
