Mn-Co/ɣ-Al2O3 coupled with peroxymonosulfate as efficient catalytic system for degradation of norfloxacin

•Mn-Co/ɣ-Al2O3 is a highly efficient activator for PMS to degrade the NOR.•Mn-Co/ɣ-Al2O3/PMS process could also efficiently degrade the typical FQs.•Mn-Co/ɣ-Al2O3 has a stable applicability in five cycles runs in the PMS-based system.•Both SO4− and OH were major reactive oxygen species in the degradation process.•Degradation pathways were proposed based on the eleven identified intermediates.
