A Comprehensive Analysis of Single-Stage Wireless Power Transfer Compensation Topologies for Battery Chargers in Electric Vehicles

This paper analyses the performance of various compensation topologies for Single-Stage Wireless Power Transfer (SSWPT) in Electric Vehicles (EVs) with focus on matching the recommended battery charging profiles. It is important to follow certain charging curves such as Constant Current (CC) and Constant Voltage (CV) for fast charge and prolonged life of the EV battery. However, due to poor coupling between the transmitter and receiver coils, it becomes challenging to maintain good performance such as high efficiency and unity power factor operation during the process using SSWPT. Therefore, a compensation circuit is connected with the coils in order to improve the aforementioned performance parameters. This paper presents a comparison of some of the well-known compensation topologies in terms of their performances while ensuring the CC-CV charging profiles of the battery. The simulations are performed in the PSPICE environment and relevant waveforms are shown to validate the analysis.
