•Air pollution may be risk factors for osteoporosis.•PM2.5, NO2, and NOX were positively associated with osteoporosis.•Genetic factors and air pollution exert combined effects on osteoporosis risk.•Additive interactions between air pollutants and genetic risks for osteoporosis was observed.
