The Geographical Line of Research in Hydrological Studies at the RAS Institute of Geography

The essence of the geographical line of research as a major trend in scientific hydrology for more than three centuries of development is considered. It is noted that the achieved level of knowledge in this area is the fruit of the efforts of many generations of domestic and foreign hydrologists; special emphasis is placed on the outstanding contribution of Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences V.G. Glushkov, who owns the very idea of the geographical‒hydrological method, and his student Doctor of Geography M.I. L’vovich, the founder of a scientific school at the Institute of Geography of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Particular attention is paid to the current state of work in this area at the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the results of recent studies are presented.
