Model predictive control in phase-change-material-wallboard-enhanced building energy management considering electricity price dynamics

•An MPC framework for PCM-wallboard-enhanced building heating energy management.•The MPC exploits a linear PCM-wallboard model and dynamic electricity prices.•The MPC achieves electricity cost-saving and load shifting by more than 60% and 80%•A good synergistic effect between the MPC approach and PCM wallboard is observed.•The MPC is computationally and financially viable for real-time building control.
