Cardiovascular outcome according to renal status in Finnish patients with type 2 diabetes

•Chronic kidney disease has been suggested as the main contributor to the increased CV morbidity and mortality in type 2 diabetes.•In this study, routine monitoring of T2DM in clinical practice was described from a large real-world cohort.•74% of the patients had available eGFR measurements and less than half (45.5%) had documentation of albuminuria measurements.•AF was present in every tenth patient, and associated with increased risk of incident CV events and progression to ESKD.
