Market, policy, and technology requirements for power systems under ‘30·60’ decarbonization goal of China

As one of the largest CO2 emission sources, China's power sector aims to transform its development patterns to help the whole society peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060 (i.e., ‘30·60’ decarbonization goal). During the transformation, the penetration of low-carbon energy would greatly increase, which causes a double challenge regarding the economic and secure operation of power systems. Therefore, this letter gives a brief discussion about the market, policy, and technology requirements for power systems, which include the current limitations and future development direction.
