The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database: A Tool for Learning, Not Judging

The establishment of congenital heart surgery as a subspecialty has been paralleled by concomitant growth in pediatric intensive care, pediatric cardiology (including interventional cardiology), and pediatric cardiac specialization in associated health care professions such as cardiac intensive care nursing and perfusion. Care across the country is now being delivered by dedicated experts who have received exceptional training in surgery, cardiology, anesthesiology, intensive care, nursing, and perfusion as well as many other specialties, and who are devoted to understanding and caring for children with congenital heart disease.
