The New Fascist Revolt

This chapter draws upon the life of his younger sister in Flint to explore how aspirational fascism established roots in Michigan and exploded into the Trump regime. It reviews the attractions of Trumpism to a white working class, particularly evangelicals, who seek scapegoats to hold responsible for hard times they have experienced during the hegemony of neoliberalism and its periods of economic crisis. The chapter explores the attractions of denialism with respect to race, climate change, and a viral pandemic to this spiritual cohort.
