摘要
•Long cephalomedullary nailing is considered the standard of care for subtrochanteric femoral fractures (SFFs).•Minimizing the fracture gap between main bone fragments is crucial for successful nailing.•The forward-striking technique was effective in reducing the fracture gap as well as placing the cephalic screw into the optimal position.•The reduced fracture gap by forward striking was greater in atypical SFFs with a transverse or short oblique configuration.
