摘要
Chemical messengers in nervous system play crucial role in synaptic communication between cells, cardiovascular modulation, and numerous functions of brain circuitry in living species. The precise detection of these chemical messengers is of great importance in disease diagnosis, and monitoring of pathological and neuronal functions. Graphene-based nanocomposites are promising candidates for sensing platforms owing to their large surface areas, hybrid structures, tailorable functional sites, superior electrical conductivity, and improved catalytic activity. In this chapter, we have briefly summarized how importantly chemical messengers act as neurotransmitters, their role in nervous system and issues related to their abnormal concentrations in human body. Further, we have discussed in detail the recent advancements in the detection of these neurotransmitters with graphene-based nanomaterials. We have critically compared the catalytic performance of these nanomaterials for the detection of chemical messengers.
